    Bizzare Hard Drive issues

Also, i've changed the USB selective suspension opition to disabled as it was previously enabled, incase that was causing it, but still the same. A defragmentation issue would not appear to be the problem either as like I said all the effected hard drives started doing this simultaneously and...

    Bizzare Hard Drive issues

Hi, it would appear that the issue was partially resolved by changing the hard drive power down option to 9999 minutes. It appears to have stopped the internal SATA hard drives from becoming unresponsive, but the 4TB External USB Drives still have the same problem. Any ideas? Thanks

    Bizzare Hard Drive issues

Ok, thanks. I'd looked at the basic energy saving settings before, but missed the advanced ones. It was set to power off hard drives after 20 minutes! Hopefully this will work. If so, I wonder why it didn't work on the Hitachi. I would imagine that this windows option is only compatible with...

    Bizzare Hard Drive issues

I have a bizarre problem which makes little sense. I have a couple of extreme theories about what it might be and short of reinstalling the OS (which I'm not sure will fix it either) I'm not sure how to resolve it either. I will talk through the problem and my reasoning so far. I currently have...

multiple operating systems on same hard drive

Are you talking about when installing a second OS on the same partition or a different partition? Isn't there a different bootloader for each partition or Operating system installed? - In which case that brings me back to my original question. Regards

multiple operating systems on same hard drive

I have a 2TB internal HDD split in to 4 partitions. XP is running on one, but i want to install windows 7 on another partition or on the same partition. I've tried to lay out my issues and train of thought in as much detail as possible... Idea/Problem A... I want to easily be able to switch...

    FAT32 Drives not recognised

I found the install cd and ran "sfc /scannow" from within windows - It gave no info about the result, but after restart, after weeks on not working, FAT32 was recognised again, so it would appear to have worked! Thanks for the info :)

    FAT32 Drives not recognised

Hi, thanks for the reply I shall try sfc /scannow as soon as i can find the install cd As for disk management, it shows up it up as healthy (931 GB which is correct) - It doesn't specify a file system though in brackets after - It's not marked as an active partition as i don't have an OS on...

    FAT32 Drives not recognised

I have a problem with my XP Pro SP3 OS not recognising FAT32 storage devices connected via USB. This was never an issue until relatively recently when it suddenly stopped recognising them. The device still shows up but it says it needs formatting when trying to access the data. I have tested...

Upgrading from XP Home to Windows 7/Vista WITHOUT loosing installed programs & settings etc

Hi, Yes my question has been answered thanks, so the thread can be closed if you wish. Although, I have plenty of responses to make to your last thread and explanations questions etc. I see it as an interesting debate rather than something negative to create animosity. A chance to learn and...

Upgrading from XP Home to Windows 7/Vista WITHOUT loosing installed programs & settings etc

You say it is peoples choice about whether they upgrade, but I think that is subjective. For example, if you need a partition size over 2TB, then surely you have no choice but to upgrade as XP won't support it. If you want to use half of the websites on the internet, you have no choice but to...

Upgrading from XP Home to Windows 7/Vista WITHOUT loosing installed programs & settings etc

I see, thanks for the info. It seems to me this whole thing is just part of a long term wider problem in the industry as a whole. The whole concept and idea that you spend years tweaking and perfecting ur system collecting programs etc etc, (which all have their associated data which is often...

    Corrupt Operating System?

Hi sorry only just noticed the reply as thought i'd get email notifications! I considered hardware, but when i run another OS on a different hard drive on the same system, I don't get any of these problems. I've also run diagnostics on the hard drive with the problematic OS yet they come up...

Upgrading from XP Home to Windows 7/Vista WITHOUT loosing installed programs & settings etc

Thanks, which versions of Vista can you upgrade to if not the Enterprise version? Also, i have many programs which is why I was determined not to reinstall from scratch. I guessed a few of them would inevitably not work after upgrade but just figured i'd reinstall the problematic ones after...

Upgrading from XP Home to Windows 7/Vista WITHOUT loosing installed programs & settings etc

Hi, I would like to upgrade from a copy of Win XP to Windows 7 Ultimate (Both 32 Bit) - However as i understand it you cannot upgrade directly without doing a clean install unless you go via windows vista to do this. Therefore, I have initially upgraded My XP system to Vista Enterprise SP2...
